Adobe Flash Zero Day Affects Android

According to PC World, there is a vulnerability exploited through Adobe Flash that affects Windows, UNIX, Mac and Android devices. The information is posted on Adobe’s Security Support site and states:

“This vulnerability (CVE-2010-2884) could cause a crash and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system. There are reports that this vulnerability is being actively exploited in the wild against Adobe Flash Player on Windows. Adobe is not aware of any attacks exploiting this vulnerability against Adobe Reader or Acrobat to date.”

The posting goes on to state that Adobe is actively working on a solution to fix this issue. Unfortunately, an update to fix the security vulnerabilities won’t be posted until the week of September 27, 2010. Adobe Reader will receive an update as well the week of October 4th, 2010.

This is of course, why I use Flashblock extensively on Firefox. On Android… well the Galaxy S. “Vibrant” doesn’t yet have 2.2 so no full flash yet. But I may simply not keep flash installed except when/if I need it specifically, because Adobe has proven time & again they don’t care about security.
