Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Powerful way to track workouts
- Be encouraged with audible coaching throughout your workout; downloadable audio packs
- Syncs to your miCoach.com account to save and view detailed analysis of your workouts
- Track things like your distance, pace, calories burned, and elapsed time
- For indoor/outdoor workouts
Cons
- If you use another type of tracker, it doesn’t link to this, which makes it yet another place to keep information
- Audible coaching levels are not the loudest so if you have your music playing it will drown them out
Features:
The Adidas MiCoach app is a way to plan and track workouts, both indoors and out. There are a LOT of options and ways to use it, from mapping a route via GPS to recording workout times and intensities, plus analysis your workouts and sync information back to miCoach.com.
The most unique feature is the audible coaching you receive throughout your workout within the app… and not that robotic sounding TTS crap. You have a choice of voice packs for coaching; English Female (US), English Male (US), Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls MVP!), and Reggie Bush (note they’re 1.3MB download packs). I can see more celebrity sports athletes and voice packs being added making it more interesting. When you start your workout, some “Zones” have full or instructional only coaching to choose from.
The developers put some thought into the operation of this app too; when you’re running the operations are locked, simply slide the bottom unlocker to operate or slide to the next panel to see how much distance ran, pace, calories burned, and elapsed time.
Be sure to setup your music Playlist from your music player as adidas miCoach can pull that music in. adidas miCoach features security as well, prompting for 4 digit pin code to access the app. Lastly, you can share workouts and collect achievements.
My biggest complaint is that it’s independent from other tracking methods. Some of that is just a function of competing products, but, for example, I use a FitBitMini, and the ability to somehow import steps and workouts from one to another would be a huge benefit. Also, the audible coaching levels are not the loudest so if you have your music playing it will drown them out.

Usefulness:
This is a hugely massive app, with so many features for tracking so many types of workouts. As mentioned the coaching aspect of the app is a great asset to have; a friendly or familiar celebrity voice encouraging you to push through.
Ease of Use:
The app is a bit hard to figure out at first, partially because there is just so much packed into it. But once you get into it and start using it, you’ll find the sections you use the most, and will gravitate toward those, rather than using every feature in the app regularly.
Frequently Used:
You’ll use this app every time you workout, from the planning to recording final results stage.
Interface:
As I mentioned above, there is a lot of information packed into the app, so at first blush, it feels a little cluttered. But the developers have done a good job trying to segment out different areas to make it easier to find what you’re looking for.
