A Better Speaker is a educational lifestyle application that aims to help improve your ability to speak- whether that be to an auditorium of thousands or just the way you recite an anecdote. The app comes with access to 11 different exercises including a warm up and 10 additional activities. In-app you can also purchase a further 9 lessons to complete the course.
Price: ~$3.71 for the Basic package, plus in-app purchases for additional packages.
Tested on: HTC One X
Content Rating: Everyone
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Nice user interface!
- Informative and well presented!
- Good use of both images and audio!
Cons
- Might be considered a little expensive.
Features:
The app features audio files for each lesson, spoken by professional speaker and voice-over artist Jonathan Tilley, and the presentations thankfully come across in an amiable and friendly manner (far removed from the possibly expected creepy life-coach motivational schtick). Each lesson features an audio track, some still images of certain exercises, postures and facial expressions, plus written dialogue for users to follow.
The app’s interface is clean, polished and looks good. It’s really easy to navigate and the text is very clear and well presented. The audio too is crystal clear and Jonathan is easy to listen to. The suggestions, exercises and activities are simple to follow and very user-friendly.
With the application you get the basic package of introduction and 10 exercises. From this you can additionally download a further 9 packages for $1.79 each. Alternatively, you can buy packages 2-10 for a bundle price of $8.68. In total there is more than 2 hours of audio to listen to and very many different exercises and activities to improve your speaking voice. In-depth topics covered include; Posture, Breathing Exercises and Articulation.
While I think there is little doubt of the quality of the content, I think many users might consider the app too expensive if you include all the extra packages. That said, if you specifically struggle to speak in public and perhaps need this skill for your employment or an important speech coming up, this could be more than worth the money over all.

Usefulness:
If you need help in articulating words or don’t come across well when you’re speaking, A Better Speaker could help transform the quality of your delivery. With audio, imagery and written text to work through, the app is nothing if not thorough and full of useful content.
Ease of Use:
The application is very easy to use and simple to follow. Navigation is very easy and the UI is slick. It’s fun to engage with and the activities test you but in a friendly way.
Frequently Used:
I guess how often you use the activities and listen to the app depends on you! There is in excess of 2 hours of content in total, so it relies on how much time you put aside to use the application and whether you need it for small tips or really struggle with public speaking and need a lot of help.
Interface:
The interface is very smooth and easy to use. It’s relatively simple- without much frill- but works perfectly fine and looks very polished.
