8 Best Android Apps You Can’t Even Think of Using on iPhone

We Android fanboys and gals like to tease the iPhone fanboys and gals. It’s all in good fun, check out our list of 8 Best Android Apps You Can’t Even Think of Using on iPhone:

Google Skymap

Though you can’t get Google Skymap for the iPhone just yet, iOS has Android beat on this one as the alternative Star Walk app pwns with its interactivity and functionality.

Google Maps Navigation

Before you jump the gun and say iPhone does have Google Maps, we’re talking about Google Maps Navigation the turn-by-turn driving, walking and public transit feature atop of Google Maps!

Google Voice

Again, we’re not talking about a mobile web version to see your Google Voice text, calls and voicemail… but the real deal to actually make and receive calls, send and receive SMS text messages and listen to or read transcribed voicemails.

Gmail

Native Gmail app and not the web version is what we’re referring to, although the web-based version offers a lot of features, just not fully featured.

Adobe Flash

One man says dictates Flash will slow phone down your phone so no one can have it. :( Well, my iOS friends, you’re missing out on a huge portion of the Web. It’s a reality, the Web has Flash, and to experience it while mobile just as on a desktops is an amazing feature. For example, I recently watched a video webinar with slides without the need for a PC, laptop or netbook.

Multiple Web Browsers

Android offers choice in a host of web browsers, some even offer cooler and convenient features than the default browser and speedier than Safari.

Swype Keyboard

For now at least you cannot get the ultra-fast & sexy typing solution for virtual keyboards known as Swype Keyboard. Maybe Apple will allow it or pre-install it on the iPhone 5? :P

Personalization

Choice to change your background or personalize your home screen without jailbreaking or buying the latest phone for that matter. :D

Installs Non-App Store Apps

There’s no easy settings to side load or install apps outside the App Store without jailbreaking. Well this doesn’t hold true for AT&T Android phones as their phones have this feature blocked.

Chime in, do you Android fanboys and gals have more to add? iPhone fanboys and gals, could it simply be refuted by, “I don’t care!“

    iOS user here

1 and 2 we dont have
Google voice apps are being added to the store atm. 2 are already up there and doing well
Flash i’ll give you. But with the shoddy performance on android im not sure if i would want it. It would be a nice touch though
We do have multiple web browsers. I have 2 alternative browsers on my phone right now
    Swype i’ll give you.
Personalization, i can customize my home screem wallpaper. I cannot add widgets yet though
Install non market apps, that depends on the carrier. I.e. At&t blocks these features anyways

All these things seem like theyre from iPhone OS 3. Do some reasearch before posting.

Google Voice apps are in development again for iOS but Google rejected the native app last summer. Even the new ones being developed aren’t nearly as fully functional as the Android app. Blame AT&T for that one.

Flash: Shoddy performance? This is more dependent on hardware than the OS. For example, when I installed iOS4 on my iPod (2nd gen) it noticeable slowed the performance of the device. Flash runs well on my HTC Evo.

You can change the wallpaper of the home screen only on the iPhone 4 unless you jailbreak your iPod Touch or iPhone.

Actually, IOS4 on the 3GS has all the same software features as IOS4 on the 4 including the ability to change the wallpaper.

@kiamat: I personally tried this on a 3gs and was unable to change it running iOS4. Not all features on iOS4 are available on other Apple devices.

I do have a 3GS on 4.0 can normally change my lock and back wallpapers. Also, there are multiple browsers for the iPhone. Strike 2 of the 8 from the list…

@Ivan: I stand corrected about the home screen wallpaper issue. There are still software features that iOS4 limits from some iPhone devices including the 3GS, 3G, and original iPhone. Since this is not standard across all devices (unlike Android phones which have this capability regardless of manufacturer or carrier), it’s not a feature I consider to be counted out yet.

The browsers available for the iPhone don’t fully integrate into the device like Android browsers are capable of doing. Also, you can’t change the default browser on an iPhone without jailbreaking it first.\

8/8 still stands as long as we are discussing non-rooted/jailbroken devices :)

Shoddy performance? It runs amazingly on my phone. Don’t knock it until you try it, and stop taking Darth Jobs’ word for it.

home screen personalization is much more than just changing wallpaper, something that iphone users will never understand as they never experienced it ;)

Can you change the default browser in iOS, so opening a link in an email launches Opera?

For me, podcatcher competition (without syncing BS, or download size limits) is a big deal.

Also, the ability to swap in a backup battery or alternate memory card is huge.

And not just Swype, but also SlideIt and other keyboards, swappable as needed and appropriate.

Oh and one more thing: Bluetooth stereo sucks without next/prev track and volume controls.

I thought that was a great post! I have never used an Android phone before, but I think that everyone should take on a cool attitude like the poster. Let’s all be fanboys and live and let live. Its not like any OS was dissed upon here!

I downloaded Santa Booth on Android and it was awesome!! You can find it on Santabooth.net, it was similar to Chunky booth which takes a picture and make the person look like they are huge!!! I also like Harbor Boat Master which is on the Android market and is by far the best game out.
