According to released statistics by Google 40% of Android users are stuck with older versions of the OS. If your reading this post chances are your one of the 40 percent of us waiting on our carrier or handset maker to release Android 2.2 (Froyo) to our devices. According to the data just under half of Android users are supporting 2.1, even high performance devices such as the EVO, Droid IncredibleMoto Droid, and Droid X. Besides a somewhat slap in the face, all this data does is make me wonder, why Google insist on creating new, fresh versions of Android when no one can have them. Except their flagship Nexus One, who earlier this year got Froyo through a manual optional install, later on to receive an official OTA update. Well I guess once again like I did with my Hero, I wait and wait for the day my EVO will sport the likes of Froyo.

  1. Savage Dragon says:

It’s not google that is holding up the release of Upgrades, its’ the carriers and manufacturers who are making the decisions as to when they will release an update once they have customized it to their liking. Google isn’t discriminating against phones that aren’t Nexus Ones, it’s just the fact that Google doesn’t have to wait on anybody else to update their phone.

When an update is ready, the Nexus one can get it right away while all the other companies like HTC and Sprint test it out, tweak it and etc….
