10 Drivesafe.ly Pro License Giveaway!

Post CTIA Wireless, Drivesafe.ly will be giving away 10 free licenses of the Pro version of their Android software to our audience (read our Android app review of Drivesafe.ly to learn more). The benefits of Pro over Free are:

  • Reads up to 500 words per message versus 250
  • Choice of female or male voice
  • Auto-select voice by contact gender

To start awareness for a campaign we plan to launch later this year regarding texting while driving, we want to hear your own personal comments about the topic. Post in the comments section below. We’ll give away 10 Drivesafe.ly Pro licenses at random with hopes that using this app helps promote safe driving with smartphones.

Giveaway ends Friday April 9, 2010 at 11: 59pm CST. Winners will be chosen at random the next day and contacted by email so be sure to sign up and comment.

Cant tell you how many accidents I see waiting due to phone use. What a great idea.

All too often, I see people texting while driving and swerving in the lane or not looking up for long periods at a time. I have a kid on my way (due next month) so I have really tried to get myself to be a safer driver. If I HAVE to text someone (usually my wife) I have started using 2.1′s speech-to-text feature which works surprisingly well. I also try to use the text-to-speech built into my phone to hear messages. I try to do this at stop lights and I know it’s not a perfect solution, but sometimes you have to while driving. Having better control of text messages could be a real life saver (literally).

This software is great. Other than using a handset via a voice controlled bluetooth/speaker phone it’s now illegal to use a cell phone while driving where I live. Texting, emailing and browsing is dangerous while driving but it is so easy to do with a smartphone.

Great job guys…this software does a great job bridging the gap and making using new technologies safer

Too many people are getting into accidents while texting. Taking your eyes off the road just for a few seconds could cause an accident so fast. drivesafe.ly is a very good app while driving. Let’s promote safe driving!

Although driving while texting and playing with cell phones IS a major problem, I think the biggest issue is the huge number (at least in my neck of the woods) of unlicensed drivers or, even worse in my opinion, licensed drivers who have no business driving. The two biggest problem plaguing South Florida drivers are people who are too old to drive safely (and have no clue what texting is) and the mass amount of unlicensed drivers.

I heard a Spanish version of DriveSafely at CTIA. Not sure if it is public knowledge, but I’d assume they are doing multiple languages soon. Let’s hope so. Nice app.

I bought it for my blackberry when it first came out and it was extremely helpful. Once I saw the light (switched to Android), realized that it would be so much more dangerous to text while driving with a touch screen. This means this app is so important for Android users. If you still think its ok to text while driving, watch this video:

Thats all the convincing I need to leave texting out of driving.

This is the greatest thing to hit Android since Google added the voice-to-text option. Google solved half the problem of the dangers of texting while driving, DriveSafe.ly solved the other half. I use the free version all the time when Im meeting up with friends and Im stuck in traffic.
