10

Nexus S 4G

Nexus S 4G (Sprint) is the 4G, mobile Internet speedier, version of Google’s benchmark Nexus S phone. The Nexus S 4G just barely topped our list as most listed are those dual-core processing doohickeys… this one is no slouch in terms of speed, it has a good rear camera for pics and HD video, front camera for video calls, offers a pure Google user experience, and gets first dibs on updates when Google rolls them out. HTC Inspire 4G

HTC Inspire 4G (AT&T) elbowed its way on to our list as it’s like an EVO but for AT&T, and we know how hot the EVO was/still is as it topped our 2010 list. With all the bells and whistles of a snappy phone, capable of faster mobile Internet, large and lush screen, easy user experience thanks to HTC Sense baked in, and the price of $100 bucks on contract- it is very tempting for AT&T customers. If only AT&T would get around to allowing it to install non-Google Android Market apps, this guy will be able to get Amazon App Store. :P Buy

DROID X2

DROID X2 (Verizon) the successor of the awesome DROID X, basically has everything under the hood as its predecessor except it’s dual-core, meaning it’s potentially twice as fast. Other differences are in the touch screen display quality and notably this guy can record up to full 1080p HD video! Buy
7

Samsung GALAXY S II

Samsung GALAXY S II (Unlocked) can accept a SIM card so you can use it in the States or abroad. It’s the benchmark of Samsung’s awesome line up of phones for 2011. With it’s iPhone 4-ish couture it strikes a fair ground between variants like the big-boi Infuse 4G. The first thing you notice about the Samsung GALAXY S II is how beautifully mesmerizing the screen is (thanks to Super AMOLED Plus technology), how fast it operates (because of the dual-core processors) and how thin and light it is. Buy

HTC Sensation 4G

HTC Sensation 4G (T-Mobile) is a sign that super Android phones still come to the carrier. Capable of 4G fast mobile Internet, it is a multimedia hog with built-in medium sources like HTC Watch video service, plus it can playback and record full 1080p HD video. HTC upped the ante with dual-core 1.2GHz processors for even faster performance. Buy

Please start considering total cost of ownership (including carrier data costs) when you rate these phones. This is particularly important given that some of the carriers are moving to eliminate unlimited data plans.

You can figure in cost, of course then you have to figure in coverage. You usually get what you pay for. And yes, tiered data sucks, sure glad I’m grandfathered in :)

    wrong stats:
Samsung Galaxy SII is the hands down winner.
Dual core 1.2Ghz processor, 1GB on board ram, 16 GB onboard storage
android 2.3 breadcrum, LED screen, 8MP camera at rear that can record in full HD 1080p at 30fps, and 2mp camera in front, thinnest, lightest (116g weight) with quadband HSPA+ at 21mbps best 4G speed so far and it is unlocked.

Our ratings for the phones weren’t based on technical specifications alone. There is more to being an awesome phone than just the hardware :)

I can’t believe the Thunderbolt won. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, it’s what I have. Very capable device and I won’t give mine up until HTC has a dual-core phone on Verizon, but the hardware is a little dated, already…
