DROID Charge

DROID Charge (Verizon) is the latest in the DROID family of phones. It lives up to its name legacy capable of Verizon’s 4GLTE mobile high speed Internet, sporting Samsung’s signature beautiful touch screen display technology, and can be a mobile hotspot for up to five devices. The rear camera is superb which can take crisp 8 megapixel pics and record HD video, plus the front camera can be used for video calling! Buy

Motorola Atrix 4G

Motorola Atrix 4G (AT&T) blew us away at CES 2011… just that marketing of the phone once it hit stores didn’t. :( Either way, once you buy this guy you won’t be disappointed. It debuted as the first dual-core processing Android phone, however, what separates this from the pack is the WebTop software that allows it to connect to special laptop or dock thus you can use the phone as a laptop or desktop! Buy

HTC EVO 3D

HTC EVO 3D (Sprint) succeeds the favorable EVO 3G, again, HTC upped the ante with dual-core 1.2GHz processors- making this one of the fastest phones on the market. The market is still trying to figure out the need for 3D, but if you get to use this guy like we have, you’ll remark the 3D feature without the need for glasses is awesome! The EVO 3D launches with the latest smartphone version of Android, can be a hotspot for up to 8 devices, and of course capable of Sprint’s fast 4G mobile Internet. Buy

T-Mobile G2x

T-Mobile G2x (T-Mobile) by LG came out with a speed injected bang. The operation speeds of this guy is uncanny… well thanks to NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core 1GHz processors it benchmarks up there with tablets! Average consumers do not care for all that techno jazz but will benefit from the performance boost. Everything under the hood is top of the line; 4G mobile speedy Internet, gorgeous 4 inch screen, plenty of room for Android apps, 8 megapixel camera which can record up to 1080p full HD video and front camera for video calling, and you can mirror your small screen to the big screen via HDMI cable. Lastly, it offers a pure Google Android user experience. Buy

HTC Thunderbolt

HTC Thunderbolt (Verizon) Yes! You read correctly the Thunderbolt! It’s our pick for best android phone 2011 thus far. Dual-core processors weren’t the only criteria in compiling this list… did you forget we’re the thorough guys- not the fast to post it up guys :P We factor insider sales data and other metrics too!

The HTC Thunderbolt is still fast despite not having a dual-core processor, plus it blazes on mobile Internet due to Verizon’s 4GLTE network. The rear camera is capable of snapping up to 8 megapixel pics and recording HD video while the front offers video calling via Skype. The screen is HTC signature large and luscious, sports Dolby surround sound, wireless DLNA capability for streaming media to your TV without wires, and you can’t forget the kick stand!

Please start considering total cost of ownership (including carrier data costs) when you rate these phones. This is particularly important given that some of the carriers are moving to eliminate unlimited data plans.

You can figure in cost, of course then you have to figure in coverage. You usually get what you pay for. And yes, tiered data sucks, sure glad I’m grandfathered in :)

Our ratings for the phones weren’t based on technical specifications alone. There is more to being an awesome phone than just the hardware :)

I can’t believe the Thunderbolt won. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, it’s what I have. Very capable device and I won’t give mine up until HTC has a dual-core phone on Verizon, but the hardware is a little dated, already…
